PPS Equipment Management Ltd has recently expanded its presence in the market for retail roll cages.

Roll cages are a ubiquitous product found across a wide industrial range and PPS has supplied products not only for the retail sector but also into the automotive, waste management and newsprint industries.

The company offers not only to sell roll cages to clients, but also provides the option of rental and management of the roll cages while at a client or at third parties. New and second hand roll cages in a range of standard dimensions are supplied to clients from either the Midlands head office or from a newly opened facility at Grimsby.

Unfortunately roll cages are not always treated with respect at clients or other third parties, so PPS has recently set up a repair operation for damaged roll cages. The repair service includes not only the PPS roll cage fleet but the company also offers roll cage repair for third party roll cage owners. As a further indication of the PPS commitment to service, they will either repair roll cages at one of their own sites or will send a mobile repair team which will repair roll cages at clients premises.

One company, part of a larger organisation based in the Midlands at Measham, has recently announced a new service repairing damaged metal roll cages.

These are specialists in returnable transit equipment (RTE) and its management. In the early years this service consisted of supplying plastic food crates and plastic pallets to the food industry and once used to despatch products, such companies would take responsibility for its safe return, to wash it and to re-introduce it into the pool system.

In addition to its core business, the company started selling metal roll cages a couple of years ago. They quickly understood that there was a market not only for new roll cages, but also a considerable second-hand requirement. So, today the company offers potential customers the option of purchasing either new or second-hand roll cages.

Not content with outright direct sales, these specialists then decided to offer customers the choice of purchasing roll cages or renting them. This has proved a very successful exercise as customers now turn to these midlands based specialists for anything from short-term roll cage rental to longer-term agreements.

Of course, renting out industrial equipment or transit equipment means that you must be able to offer that equipment in first-class condition. But after a loan period some roll cages come back in less than pristine condition. So, those providers had to be able to repair broken or damaged roll cages and set up workshop in the Midlands to repair roll cages returning from rental.

But, typically the company decided to move a step further and now offers roll cage repair services to users of roll cages who have no facility to carry out repairs themselves.

Such specialists have since secured a long-term contract with a major sports retailer to repair a large number of damaged roll cages immediately and to offer an ongoing maintenance service – to include roll cage repairs – to this key client.
